Team Morale & Energy Boost (part III)

make teamwork the dream work

Without camaraderie and collaboration, it’s easy for individual team members to feel isolated, frustrated or overwhelmed. A team that feels disconnected or who lacks trust can quickly and easily become burnt out – not great for meeting organizational goals.

Team Morale and Energy Boost Tip #3:

Create traditions that connect teammates to the larger group and to one another.

Knowing what to expect makes people feel safe and welcomed - reducing anxiety, burnout and inefficiency.

A ritual or routine not only creates a sense of belonging, but also is scientifically proven to improve attention and execution and increase emotional stability and confidence.

These valuable tools can be simple, as long as they are consistent.

You may consider:

  • A brief check-in about what is bringing each team member joy at the beginning of the week

  • A monthly or quarterly lunch or coffee date with the team to talk about non work topics

  • Setting aside team time to volunteer in the community

  • A regular exchange of appreciation for each others’ efforts and accomplishments

A former manager of mine and I used to do our one on one meetings over lunch at a casual restaurant we both loved. The setting allowed both of us to be more conversational than we might have been in a conference room. Our interactions were honest and constructive and allowed for professional growth and new opportunities.

What traditions and routines have you brought (or do you hope to bring) to your team or even to your family?

When you think of them, how do they make you feel? What else might you incorporate to keep people feeling connected & energized?
